I just received a call that should make any believer rejoice in how the Lord delivers the sinner.
A brother who I have known for 25 years or more just called me. He told me that a lady from his fellowship, who is not well-spoken and poor asked him for help. She wondered if he would speak with her son about the Lord? Her son lives in New York City. He had had, bad experiences with churches and didn’t want anything to do with pastors or Christians in general.
The son’s cousin was found dead in his apartment in New York City. It isn’t known if he died of the current virus. But when the mother heard about the nephew’s decease, she asked her son if he would talk to her pastor, my friend Mike. Surprisingly the son said that he would. Mike called him and spoke with him for over 45 minutes. Mike took him from Genesis to the Cross. The son stated that he had never heard the story of the Gospel told to him with such clarity. He was then challenged to trust Christ? He said that he would and made a confession of faith.
What Mike didn’t know was that the new convert had been driving the whole time. He didn’t know he was on a speaker phone. Mike also didn’t know that there was a little three year old daughter in the car with her father. But, neither did he know that the new convert’s aunt was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle. The whole time Mike thought he was just talking to a man whose mother far away in Florida wanted him to come to Christ.
Mike told the son after his conversion that the first thing he must do is phone his mother. He needed to tell his Mom what he had done and what had happened. However, when Mike (the evangelist) got a call from the mother he was so surprised to find out that the son’s aunt was sitting in the back seat. She had listened to Mike’s whole Gospel presentation and had trusted the Lord Jesus too.
