Here are the words from a Haitian Pastor
On March 20th, the president of Haiti asked the Haitian population to stay at home because they started to find some Corona virus cases here. After a few days, we can see the market places full with people. The population say they prefer to die with Covid 19 than to die with hunger inside their house. It is sad, but they are right. More than 90% of the population have to go in the street each day to have money just enough to buy portion of food for the day. They do not have money to buy food for a week. Those who can buy food for a week do not have a refrigerator. Even for those who have refrigerator, there is no electricity. Of course, I’m describing the situation in my country, where I have lived for my entire life. This is the answer all Haitians give when a journalist ask them why you don’t stay at home? Are you not afraid of Corona virus? They Answer: ” We prefer to die in the street with that disease than to die of hunger inside of our house with our family “.
I still cannot imagine what Haiti would do if we would start to have thousands of cases …… when we do not have hospitals here. May the Lord Jesus come.
